About me

Artist Statement

I create mixed-media works of Mexican treats and snacks using acrylic paint, wood, spray foam, beads, sand, and repurposed materials like plastic bottles, newspaper, and other discarded objects. My work is a tactile archive of childhood, not of clear memories, but of textures: the graininess of chili-coated paletas, the goopy mayonnaise dripping down an elote, the crumbly nature of the sugar on a concha. Food and texture were my harbor in a childhood I struggle to remember, and now, through exaggerated forms and layered materials, I reconstruct its warmth and wonder.

My process is an odd one. I usually begin with sketches of my work, but the final piece often strays away from the initial idea as I respond to the materials, letting their textures guide me. The imperfections are intentional—like memory itself, my sculptures are messy, sweet, and uneven.

I want viewers to feel the pull of nostalgia—to crave the treats I depict, but also to sit with the melancholy of what’s faded. My work is a love letter to the senses that held me when I was younger. These works are bittersweet—celebrations of comfort food, but also reminders of how we cling to sensory fragments when memories
